This is an excellent, in-depth travel guide to Equatorial Guinea. I highly recommend it!

Small is beautiful? Think again. Equatorial Guinea is a black hole in the heart of Africa: Small, obscure, corrupt, nasty and evil. It is the 5th most censored country on earth It uses most of its educational budget to send the children of the ruling elite to study abroad. A former US ambassador described its system of government as a “family criminal conspiracy”. Previously, nobody cared about the suffering of its people because the country was too insignificant. Today nobody cares either because the country is swimming in oil. Equatorial Guinea also seems to have actively discouraged tourism for much of its history as an independent state. All that should not (and does not) discourage adventurous travellers, or (more realistically) expats who already live there and want to explore the country. While Lonely Planet has long gone mainstream and ditched seldom visited countries as not profitable enough (e.g. Comoros, Djiibouti, Falkland Islands), Bradt has thankfully made the courageous yet “commercially bonkers decision” – in the publisher’s own words – to produce guidebooks that will surely not sell millions of copies, bringing us titles on destinations such as North Korea, South Sudan, St. Helena and Sao Tome.The second-best guide to Equatorial Guinea is a 25-page chapter from Lonely Planet’s 1994 (and long discontinued) Central Africa regional guidebook. Faced with such weak competition, a mediocre, shortish, but updated guidebook would have done the job. However, the author has been far more ambitious and diligent and has produced a superb book that literally puts Equatorial Guinea on the tourist map for the first time ever. The guidebook is sometimes refreshingly outspoken, with background info on politics and human rights, and two pages about infamous Teodorin Obiang. Some views and phrases reminded me of Lonely Planet’s irreverent 1980s “Africa on a Shoestring”. My personal favourite is the two-page feature “Avoiding the shakedown”, which contains hilarious but very practical advice on how to deal with corrupt officials who hassle you – immensely useful almost everywhere in Central and West Africa. You almost think the author is hell-bent to get his guide on Equatorial Guinea’s banned book list. Sounds familiar? Lonely Planet was banned in Malawi in the 1980s and many self-respecting writers on African affairs used to regard it as a badge of honour if their writings were banned in a country or two.The guidebook is an impressive 240 pages long and although the history and context chapters are detailed you never get the feeling that the author’s intention was to merely fill the book with bloatware: The majority of text consists of practical, detailed, first-hand researched travel information. Bradt’s maps were traditionally inferior to Lonely Planet’s, but seem to be getting better (easily achieved because LP’s have been getting worse…). I still dislike Bradt’s practice of indicating food and hotel prices with $$$ symbols instead of giving precise amounts. Lastly, Bradt’s information on in-country transport has often been weak, but this is not a huge problem in Equatorial Guinea, which is a tiny country where there is usually only a single road and a single form of transport between A and B. These are all minor issues that do not distract from the quality of this book.

This is an excellent and remarkably comprehensive travel guide to one of the world’s least visited countries. Africa’s only Spanish speaking nation has had a turbulent past and visa restrictions (US citizens are the only ones not requiring visas) have made access by most foreigners quite difficult. This is an intriguing country for the adventurous with spectacular rainforests, islands with beautiful beaches and wildlife found nowhere else, and (due to Equatorial Guinea’s oil wealth) good roads and some good hotels. This guide book gives great coverage of travel basics (transport, lodging, restaurants, and what to see) for the whole country with a couple dozen maps plus fascinating background information on a variety of topics such as wildlife and history, and great advice on dealing with the challenges of visiting Equatorial Guinea.

I've lived in Central Africa for 22 years, and if I were writing a guide to a country, I would wish to write one as good as Oscar Scafidi's guide to Equatorial Guinea. I especially appreciate all of the historical background which he offers, information which is very difficult to find if one doesn't have access to Spanish sources. I highly recommend this for any teacher that will be needing a supplement for vocabulary. The online resources are well laid out and very user friendly. Great product! Bough for my 10th grade student who will be taking the SAT soon and needs a vocabulary boost.

This book covers not only vocab. but also spelling, writing, reading...My student actually likes the reading portions and the exercises. It has spurred some really interesting writing assignments. We're combining vocab and spelling tests to 'get it done in one'!

A must for homeschool or any school. I use these with 6th-8th grade and my kids are becoming vocabulary bosses. Ignore ELA "experts" who tell you these are outdated.

As a test prep tutor who specializes in exams which test vocubulary knowledge - the SAT, SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT and others - I am always on the lookout for helpful vocabulary-building tools. This series, while not particularly exciting, is excellent; I use the full set. Students in lower grades can start from the lower levels and work their way up. Each word list is accompanied by a good variety of review and reinforcement drills: sentence completions, mix-n-match, passage readings, etc.Since this series is often used in schools, my luckier students get their test prep and school vocabulary homework done simultaneously!

As a teacher and a dad, I have found that this series is a great way to teach vocabulary and is a great way to learn. Words have the pronunciation(which is also online in audio form), great definitions/synonyms/antonyms, and great exersises. There is a review every 3 chapters in each book and a review/test at the end of it too. Each book has about 12 chapters with 20 words to learn. Great to do weekly. As a teacher I would advise testing weekly 10 of the 20 words with spelling, meaning and using them in a sentence. I would then give them 5 additional words from any earlier chapter to keep them reviewing. These books are great. My students (from 6th-11th grade) all love them. After a few chapters students will comment how they can understand more when they read. It is also very cool to hear your kids learning these words in their daily lives.

This is a great educational resource for increasing vocabulary knowledge and use for Middle School learners. I wish it had a few more units and included a bit with spelling strategies to make it an even better learning tool.

The exercises mirror the types of questions you will see on the standardized tests. Just working through the unit will cause you to memorize the words and definitions effortlessly. This edition has included more questions like the ACT. Each unit's word list is the same no matter which version you choose. What changes are the question types. The question types are updated periodically to more accurately reflect the types of questions found on the current version of the ACT/SAT. Use vocab test dot com for extra drill throughout the week. It's free, aligned to Sadlier-Oxford by level and unit, and the example sentences are hilarious. My kids really look forward to it every day. By using this website, it is possible to do this program on your own -- no teacher, no answer keys. The Sadlier-Oxford website will pronounce the words for you (it's free too) and vocab test dot com will delight you with their drills.

Janice Dean is the senior meteorologist for the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. This is the second Freddy the Frogcaster book that I purchased for my Grandson who was 3 1/2 when we got it. We live in the South so we don't get much if any snow here but it still helped explain to my Grandson how different states have different weather. He loved it & he can't wait for us to get some snow! I purchased this Frog and Blizzard book for a young girl as I felt she would enjoy it; of course. her Mommy will have to read it or her Daddy. With me being a frog collector, I thought it was appropriate! This little girl always asks why I have so many frogs and I tell her. Also, I like the author of these books.

I have bought all the Frogcaster books for my grandchild, Antonio. He absolutely loves them all to include the Big Blizzard. I love the storylines but most importantly, they are very simple and very educational. My grandson will always take them out for us to read, one, two, three, you get the picture! Keep them up, Janice! Also the colors and presentation are out of this world. Well done!

As most people who read self-help books, for many years I am a sufferer of anxiety and fear. Sometimes, my fear comes to be panic. I trace back these fears to the education I suffered in childhood and which, among other mistakes, made me believe in a God who is more ready to punish us than to allow us to be happy. For example, God gave us the sexual pleasure, but the Church makes us believe that this pleasure, out of wedlock, is a mortal sin and condemns us eternally to hell. If our father was authoritarian and severe a person, it's no wonder that we believe that our father in heaven is alike, with far more power to punish our faults. And it is no use telling us, at the same time, that both parents love us and that the punishment is for our good. The fear was introduced to always, in our credulous minds and hearts . The basic belief that we are sinners, guilty and not worthy of a happy life is rooted in us, for the benefit of the authors of self-help books and to our unhappiness.As I was reflecting on my fears and anxieties and reading books that could help me overcome them, I began to realize that everything depends on our thoughts and the emotions that are associated with them. What many of these books tell us is to have positive thoughts. But I found out that there is no positive thinking without the negative thinking. Our mind is dual: when we think of "day", that thought brings the thought "night"; When we think of "life", we also think "death". Which of the opposing thoughts will be predominant in our mind? Depends on the beliefs that are stored in us. In my case, as one of my core beliefs is that I am a sinner who deserves to be punished, the thought "death" has more power than the thought "life", because it is in accordance with my belief.Later, and after having read a few more tens of books, I realized the concept of "resistance". I realized that trying to impose, by force, a positive thinking against the negative thinking, which made me feel anxious, had as a result give even more power to negative thinking. In the war between what I want and what I feel (what I believe), the winner is always what I feel. So, try to change my negative thoughts, opposing them with positive thoughts, is resisting negative thoughts and this resistance is precisely what feeds negativity.So if resistance isn't the solution, what to do?While I was going through these dark emotional experiences, with fear as the dominant factor, also had wonderful experiences, what I call " eye winks" of God ", as if God wanted to tell me that I'm never alone and that He is not how I was taught. These experiences are what the authors call "synchronicities". I will tell one of the most stunning.In 1971, I was on a beach in Africa with my wife and a 2 year old daughter. On that day, the beach was deserted. The closest one was over 500 feet away. I felt absolutely at peace with myself.I love the sea and the day was splendid. Then came to my mind the thought that that paradise was about to end. The vacation would end the next day, because we had no money to go on.Without losing my peaceful and happy state of mind, I asked my wife how much money would be needed to stay one more week and she said it would take a lot of money - about 500 dolars. Indeed a lot of money in 1971!Relaxed, I stretched my arms back and buried my fingers in the sand. I felt something touching my fingers of the left hand. I grabbed it and ... It was a 500 bill folded in four, buried in the sand, right behind me.Out of the blue (or rather the sand) was there exactly the money we needed to stay an extra week in that paradise. Neither more nor less!In the year that I had this experience, I had never heard of.Law of Attraction, positive thinking, visualization, Silva Mind Crontol, the power of now, power energy, quanta, manifesting desires, etc. What happened was totally spontaneous. And I had many other identical experiences, of which much later-and thanks to some books that I have read-I got an important conclusion: whenever I'm quiet, without wanting it to happen something, without worry for not having what I would prefer to have, without making any effort to have that thing, I get it. This has already happened to me dozens of times.This means that all the practices and techniques I have learned in these self-help books are wrong? In other words, any technique is a form of resistance? And the secret is to accept rather than resist? But what exactly is to accept?And what has this to do with the fear, stress and anxiety?Some of the books I read gave me a glimpse of what is acceptance. To accept is to be attentive to what is happening in me and outside me. If I'm afraid, acceptance is to see this fear in me. Is to observe the fear, rather than react to it. That way, I don't add any thought to fear; I only notice. I can assure you that, when I do this, the fear will go away after a few moments. Why?The answer is a surprising discovery that I don't remember seeing reported in any book. I discovered that fear is ... the fear of being afraid! We do not are afraid of this or that-God, the devil, death, disease, misery, flying, etc. We are afraid of being afraid, period. And, so, when we give our attention to the fear that we are feeling rather than trying to avoid it-and we accept it as we accept the wind in the trees, what we are doing is not being afraid of being afraid.And, if we are not afraid of being afraid, then we have no fear at all.

I don't know what I would do without Abraham's books....Emotions are our way of communication with God, Source, Creator, our Soul....what ever you want to call it. We have to tune in and stop trying to turn them off!

This book help me understand a bit of the law of attraction that I had no clue I was not in place over.A must buy must read book for those seeking change....

This book by Abraham-Hicks follows in the tradition of the others - a reflection on the power of thought and the "Law of Attraction" as it pertains to the reader, and the reader's vibration and "Vibratory Escrow" interacting with the material world.The book focuses on the ability of the reader to "go with the flow", and point their thoughts "downstream" and begin to vibrationally align with the challenges facing the reader. Haven't read this one yet but, I borrowed this book from the library years ago. I saw it here for a good price and had to have it. I bought "Ask and it is Given". Fantastic book as well which i highly recommend too. Get both of them. You'll be glad you did. You need all of you to ignite LOA and people are always pushing their feelings away considering it a weakness. Ehhh (buzzer).....wrong. You need your emotions because as i read "Your emotions are the antennae of your thoughts". I'm an HSP/EMPATH so my feelings are always on and as a kid growing up people always tried to make me temper my emotions. Ehhh (buzzer)....wrong and and i knew it was wrong. I believe that we need to use all our senses. That's what they are there for.

This book is great. I read "Ask & it is given" first. Which was a wonderful book as well. This book helped me understand where my emotions were coming from and helped guide me to change them to better feeling emotions. Their information was extremely helpful and life changing. I highly recommend this book. It's awesome!!! It's true!! It works! Change your thoughts, change your emotions, change your life!! Read this book

As esther always got me used to. A wise woman whose words reassure you to just relax and everything will work out which makes sense. I tried worrying and rushing things and none of that helped.Esther advice makes perfect sense.

The book really helped me think of ANYTHING as potential crafting material (before I had assumed I'd need to find a willow tree somewhere). The book also has a LOT of designs and tips (I didn't even know rib baskets existed!). That being said, I wish it had had a larger section on different material types. It DID give info on specific plants you could harvest (when to harvest, what parts to harvest, general uses, etc), but it'd be nice to have a "these are challenges specific to using soft material like grass, these are challenges to using rigid materials like hard wood". In the text there would be occasional references to more rigid material being harder on the hands, but it would have been nice for an entire section on things like that.For example, I'm trying to make a twining grass basket (since the book says that grass stems are good for that)...but it can be hard to keep the spokes of the basket stiff enough to keep the shape, but flexible enough to not crease or even break. SHOULD I be making the whole basket out of grass? Should I make the spokes out of something more firm? Should I avoid soaking the spokes at all? It would be nice if the book had a section to answer such questions.

It's an excellent book. It thoroughly covers what plants provide basketry material. This is particularly important to a Permaculturist because in Permaculture design, every element in it must have multiple uses. Providing fibers for baskets is one of those elements not usually considered in a garden design. It's a superior resource and reference book for that information besides providing inspiration for using all the vines, grasses etc. around the environment in beautiful baskets.

I bought this used first time I did it and I am very pleased and what a great saving. It is a very big and detailed book and alot of reading I am a visual person so it does not have lots of pictures but the basic ideas and information that is very helpful and happy I got this book... I am currently gathering my leaves, sticks and vines so complete a basket.

I have really enjoyed it. A great book with easy instructions on many types of foliage and designs.

This is an excellent book for the period (1991). A couple of the directions could be a bit more clear. Interweave Press has always published exceptional books. It's a good investment if you enjoy this kind of craft.

I have a Girl Scout troops, and when I found this book at the library I knew I had to purchase it for future reference. It has tons of games I played as a kid in the 70's and tons more I have never heard of before. In a world where kids only play games that require a battery, it's nice to have a reference of great games that build team work and increase exercise.

As a relative "old timer" living in a technologically oriented world, I'm often queried by my young friends what I did as a child with no Internet, no video games, and no DVD player. "The Art of Stone Skipping" is a great resource for all the activities I did as a child, as well as describing the infinite pleasures of using your imagination. I would recommend it for anyone who's interested in how to play without technology.

This was bought as a gift for a 10-year-old girl, and she and her friends love it! So many new games to learn and try out!

My grandchildren and I have had the best time trying out all these low-tech activities, much to the joy and surprise of my little darlings!

5 & 8 yr. old grandsons love video and smart phone games. Hope to interest them in some old fashioned games also.

I'm so happy to have found this book! This summer, I was so tired of watching my children wasting days inside with their heads bent over their tablets, playing video games. Since we discovered Stone Skipping, we have had tons of fun, together! We have been playing outside actually interacting with each other. What a great way to reconnect with your family! I highly recommend this to any parent who is losing your children to the tech world. Love, love, love it!

A fun book. Gave it to my son so he could pass these games onto his sons and daughters.

For an experienced user of earlier Word versions, I was disappointed in the lack of information on details, such as setting defaults, finding topics that now require the use of several function keys, .a more detailed index to find information, etc. Illustrations are too small and unclear to be useful.Pets4hlth@ameritech.net

It has the information but does not allow the reader to easily look for specific processes without reading the whole book. Young folks with open minds will profit most. Old codgers will get lost in tedium.

The usual "For Dummies" fare.Cursory overviews, no real depth.

I bought this book along with the CD; I've used the CD more than the book but am glad that I bought both. In my opinion, all Dummies books are amazing and well written. Without using complicated terms, they explain what you need to know.

Too brief on each subject. Need to be more in-depth. If you want to find more in-depth information, order the individual books on each subject.

quick and easy read offered some handy hints but I still needed additional cheat sheets to learn the new Excel. Even went to you tube for extra help.The " Dummies" books have their place as quick study guides but are far from complete as user guides
