I am a design book junkie. I love them! I read them word for word, study the images, and have read every design book I own at least five times. I was so excited to receive the newest Domino book (I loved the first one!). "Your Guide to a Stylish Home" was a big disappointment for me. My first disappointment was in the photographs. I am a photographer, and was appalled that so many images were over exposed and washed out! And I know the photographers who took the shots would be appalled at how their good original photo was ruined in the printing process! I know the originals are good, because many of the photos in the book are borrowed from other designers I follow and who have used the same photos in their own books as well (of which those same original photos are glorious and perfect!). Isn't one of the main reasons for these design books to study the photos? What a disappointment to have the printing of them be so subpar! Perhaps it's just a first print run error, but the publishers should be alerted to check their calibration on the printing so the fine details of these beautiful bright light rooms are not lost as they are in my book! The content contains nothing new or exciting. I do admit that I have read 20+ design books, but most of them have some sort of new organization or take on things. This book didn't stand out in any way from everything I've already read. Poor photos, and frankly a bit boring. I pre-ordered the book, and started to wonder if it was any good when I saw designers giving away free copies on instagram as a promotion and none of them gave an endorsement. It was just "Domino's new book is here! I'm giving away a copy". Nothing about the content. My suspicions were verified. It's just plain not that great.

This book will most appeal to those who already like the clean-but-eclectic style that Domino is known for: white walls, bare wood, exposed storage, pops of colour and pattern in rugs and chairs. It’s dressed-down but elegant, with quirky, personal touches throughout.Personally, I find a lot of the rooms to be a little bland, but I like how the photo captions explain exactly what works about the decorator’s choices. Even when I don’t like a room, I can still see what they were going for and learn something from it. And anyway, it could be a fun drinking game to sip every time you see a sheepskin draped over a chair. (Hint: you will be pretty tipsy by the time you reach the last one on page 217.)This guide is mainly written for the average person working with what they’ve already got; the text is friendly and approachable. The looks are achievable without spending a fortune or hiring a decorator. The advice is largely applicable to renters as well as home-owners. It’s not really the kind of book where you go out and buy everything in the photos, but you could – there’s a shopping guide in the back and sources are meticulously documented.The page layout feels a little crowded. I would have preferred more full-page photos rather than so many pages with multiple small photos. Photos of full interiors should be large to give a sense of space; small photos are more appropriate for close-up details. The book would also have benefitted from a more minimalist approach to the typography, without so many inconsistencies in borders and backgrounds.The book’s quality is very nice – good paper, cleanly printed photos and even a pink ribbon bookmark. It would make a beautiful housewarming gift. Also, my cat apparently finds the open book pretty comfy, and I bet yours will too.

Not nearly as good as Domino's first book-- and I was always a big Domino fan. Despite the similar-looking cover, there is little else in common with the quality of the earlier book. Most photographs are too small to be of much use and the content is just NOT up to the previous Domino standard. Does Domino have new editors? Bcs if so, they are missing the mark and I've noticed that in its last few magazines, too. Before I purchase another Domino product -- book or magazine -- I will take a look at it in the store before heading to the cash register. (The quality used to be so high that I didn't have to look at the contents before purchasing; you could count on quality. Not any more...) I'd suggest that anyone considering purchasing this book look at it first in a bookstore before purchasing, it contents unseen, on Amazon.

The first Domino book is better. It is inspiring, sparking your own creativity and giving you tools to style your home. That's why I was so excited about purchasing the second book. What a disappointment. I felt more like someone's lazy Pinterest board than a good quality design book that would inspire your own new ideas. There wasn't much direction or information... just a bunch of somewhat bland photos with a clean, bright (overexposed) aesthetic. The rooms photographed seemed mainly devoid of the vivaciousness, liveliness, and creativity I usually love Domino for. Thumb through a friend's copy or request it from your library if you're curious. This one need not join the cast of your bookshelf.

I loved the old Domino magazine, and was happy to discover this book. It has many easy to follow ideas for decorating--or in my case adjusting my stuff in a more pleasing way.

I am a HUGE Domino fan and have been following them since they started. I looked forward to their book as I loved the first book. This was a disappointment. It was not well written or edited. The photo's are small and hard to see. Some of the photo's are blurry. The content is unoriginal, nothing like the fresh, innovative Domino I have come to know and love. Not quite sure what happened here but hope they can get back the Domino magic.

Also many book on the subject of political revolution in the US are depressing, Sanders does an incredible job of keeping the outlook positive. Highly recommend.

I give Bernie Sanders and his ideas a 5+ but I am going to have to give this book a four and if I was really being truthful a three might be more appropriate but I decided on a four since the information in this book is so valuable. The reason for my less than overwhelming support is not in the information but much of the books information can be found on the internet and little new information or insights are presented. That said, if you are a Bernie Sanders fan, you won't go wrong but I would recommend one of his other books, in particular, "Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In" if you would like to read about Bernie Sanders and his ideas.

This book isn't a guide or lecture on or about starting a political revolution. It's more of an outline on what should be done to start a political revolution, and why these things should be done.What's really great about this book is that it's a quick, and easy read that's an outline of Bernie Sanders ideology on how to fix the most important problems facing the United States today. Senator Sanders gives examples of each problem, and present ways to fix each of them.Because of the way this book is structured, I think its focus is on people who really don't know about what or where Bernie stands on the issues. But, Guide to Political Revolution should also be read by people who know where Bernie Sanders stands on the issues. Because, Guide to Political Revolution gives a quick overview of his agenda.

Bernie gives a play by play breakdown of what needs to be done in our country and why. He offers real time solutions to many problems. Maybe it's a must read before the next election in order to avoid any replay of the last one???

For those afraid of the Sanders revolution because they are terrified his ideas equate to Soviet or Cuban communist socialism, they need to read. Familiarize themselves with a different form of "American" socialism, where free public education just 4 years more than we pay for now, but only for those who educationally can qualify without destroying a future with crushing debt. Essentially, it takes what was said in that Our Revolution and makes it more concise (half as many pages) and easier to digest, and contains a bunch of pictures, graphs, and diagrams to break up the space. If you've already read Our Revolution, then you probably won't get much more out of this book. If you haven't, then this book is a good tl;dr version.

It establishes the beliefs of senator Sanders, what he thinks are the problems in the status quo and how he thinks they should be fixed. Socialist views are all over the book, not surprising and they might be viewed as a a bit unrealistic and idealistic to ever be established in real life. It seems to me that for a kid's general interest picture/story book what you sometimes want is - a friendly looking hero, a story that moves along but makes sense, illustrations that are clear or at least easily explainable, and a cheerful overall vibe. There are other books that are edgier or maybe more audacious, but for a solid appealing read those basic elements seem to describe a successful book.Well, that's what we have here. Rocket has a certain wide-eyed cheerful appeal without being dopey or simple. He is adventurous but alert. He is brave and resourceful. He is sometimes bemused or inattentive, but he is not a foolish character. In this volume he's learning to read with the help of a very determined little bird. Between the drawings, (which are charming and expressive), and the narration, (which is clear but not patronizing), you get a story that is easy enough to follow, maybe with a little help, and very satisfying. There is a lot of extra business scatterred throughout the illustrations, so there are things to talk about or to point out to your little reader as you go through the story."Charm" is a bit of an overused description, so let's just say that this book is a mellow little lark. And sometimes that's just what you want. A nice little find. Definitely worth a look.

Our 3 year old has had a passion for letters and has been inquisitive about words lately, so we decided it was time to introduce reading. We have worked on several two- and three-letter words and his own name, but to get to the next step, I felt we needed to illustrate reading to him in a way that wasn't just mommy telling him how to do it. He "got" potty training through potty books, and "got" the concept of a baby brother through books, so I thought we'd try to find some books on reading this time around. Reading about Rocket's experience, he is beginning to understand the concept of sounding out words, not just spelling them. I think he understands the task of reading better with every reading of this story. We are not pushing him to read because he has a lot of time to pick it up, but we wanted to open up the idea to him, and this story is a great tool for that. My husband complains that once he read the book once, you couldn't tell if he was sounding out the words, or if he had just memorized them. To me, however, this is not an issue - if you see a word and know what it is, you may not be working on sounding the word out, but you have learned the word. He sees these words in other contexts and reads them.

I used this book as a read aloud in the beginning of the year for my small group reading students. After I read it to my students, they created a reading goal-something they wanted to learn or get better at in reading. This book is great for the younger students that are struggling to learn to read. I highly recommend it. They also make a Rocket stuffed animal!

Hands down my 3.5 year old's current favorite book and has been for a few months now. He quotes part of the book to us all day long. Great illustrations and cute characters. The book is very entertaining! My son already has his alphabet down, but this would be great for a child that's still learning that as well as giving them an understanding of why we learn the alphabet and why we learn to read.The follow up book about writing a story is a bit over my son's head, but would be much more appropriate for most 5-6 year olds or a very advanced 4 year old. If you enjoy this book, I'd highly recommend the Step 1 reader Rocket's 100th Day of School. Great for counting and really cute too.

Absolutely love this book. My reluctant kindergarten reader would at first interject the words illustrated in the text... When Rocket spelled W I N D or S U N or M U D, for instance, she would say the letters and sound out the words. Tad Hills' characters successfully infected my daughter with their enthusiasm for reading!! She was able to become excited for Rocket and forget her own insecurity... This book proved to be a powerful tool. She can now read the entire book herself but will often ask that I still read to her, for the story is both sweet and soothing- A perfect bedtime or reading time story. Beautiful illustrations to boot!

The book is perfect story wise. Definitely helped get my son excited to learn to read. But the book arrived ripped and bent on the corner. We kept the book but I wasn’t happy with the condition.

I purchased this for my grandkids based on the reviews and that I have a dog named Rocket. This dog looks nothing like my dog, so taking that out of the equation, I give this book five stars. My grandkids ages 7, 5 and 2 have asked me to read this repeatedly. They like the premise of the story and the little bird that teaches Rocket to read. The illustrations are very nice and follow along with the story. It is the perfect length for that "one more story" before bedtime or as part of a marathon story time on a rainy afternoon. I have read this numerous times and haven't gotten tired of it yet!

The book is great. The Kindle version is terrible! No matter how you format the words, the words and pictures are on different pages at least half the time, . You cannot format it like the hard copy of the book - two pages next to each other. I'm very disappointed in the quality since this is a really cute book.

Good book on lucid dreaming for beginners. I have read 4 books on lucid dreaming and have been trying to have lucid dreams for about a month without success so far, but I'll keep trying. This book has the same techniques as the other 3 books I've read by Charles Morley, Stephen Laberge and Allan Wallace. The book by LaBerge is more comprehensive but can be overwhelming for a beginner. The book by Wallace is more focused on the tibetan dream yogas. This book is more similar to the one by Morley, as it is more approachable to beginners. Good luck on your attempts! i will for sure keep trying.

This book REALLY works.... I followed the directions and I SWEAR I had a Lucid dream every night. The only problem was that during the day I would be very tired. I am thinking that while I was 'lucid in my dreams' I was not actually getting any sleep. It works though, for sure!!

Honestly the best book about dreaming I've ever read. The style of writing as if it were a knowledgeable friend telling you what you can do seriously adds to the overall effectiveness. Hearing it from the people who've done it for years feels more pure than reading it from a journalist or a scientist. Overall amazing book would recommend to anyone looking to lucid dream. (Note: it takes time and a lot of commitment to start to lucid dream. You can't expect to pick up the book and the same night lucid dream. It took me 2 years of on and off work to get to a point where I could have maybe one lucid dream a month.)

I look forward to going to bed and I love a nap also. My dreams amaze me. I wish I could sketch my dreams.I have not been able to control my dreams for the most part. If something is too frightening, I wake myself up. If I realize it's a dream, and try to change what is going on, that also wakes me up or I go on to a different dream.Though in the last year I have decided to stay in the bad dream to see where it takes me. The dream is that I'm in a roller coaster of sorts, and I'm frightened of going over the highest part. Instead of waking up now, I continue over but end up in a marshy area where the rail stops.I am not afraid of water so I am confused as to why, in so many of my dreams, that the water is murky and full of strange sea creatures. Or that I go over a dune and its high tide and there is no beach.I can fly, but only just above people about 7 feet. I can't fly far. I also can't run. My feet feel like cement. It's ridiculous, so I wake up to start another dream.I dream of a house that is set up strangely but quite deluxe. I also ultimately get stuck in a stairway that is boxed in. If I go for a drive, I drive poorly and I never can decide which route to take. Nothing is familiar. Once I recognize the same scenario, I wake up so if can go back to another dream.Since reading your book, I have changed some minor things in three dreams I had this week. I am hoping to keep working on it, now that I learned lucid dreaming exists.Thanks,Kathy Snow Dweck

You need to read this book. It's not a gimic or a hoax, it's real. I was skeptical, but after reading and having lucid dreams now it's 100% real. Morever, what you can do in your dream world is just nuts, talk to dead relatives, ask big life questions, fly, shapeshift...YEP.It takes some practice and discipline though, I've let it slip lately, but I'll be getting back into the swing of it and can't wait to see what I can learn. 100% must read and recommend paperback so you can easily reference. I listened to audiobook first which is very good, but physical book comes in handy

I got this for my husband as a gift and he loves it - he finds it fascinating and well written. If you're interested in this topic, I think this book is a good choice.

The book provides a step to step guide on how to comtrol your dreams and how to be concious when you are dreaming. The techniques require practice, but may worth a try. To be honest so far I was not able to lucid dreaming, but I keep on trying. It is not easy and requires lot of patience and learning, but must be a good experience.

Absolutely awesome book! Really well written with excellent information for beginners; laid out in an easy to understand way. The illustrations are also some of the best I've seen! Wish more books of this type were laid out in a similar way; fun and easy to follow while still containing plenty of information and tid-bits. Repurchasing because I gave my first copy away to a friend (: also makes a great gift!

Great Christmas gift for my son but you then have to be able to sit there and create them. Easier for someone who can physically do that.

Very helpfull

Paper airplanes hold a universal appeal for boys and girls, and this book helps them understand how they work. Byron Barton's line drawings illustrate Seymour Simon's lucid explanation of basic aerodynamics. This is not a book of step-by-step directions for making many types of airplanes, but rather a series of experiments to help the reader understand why the planes fly the way they do. This creates the opportunity to adapt a few basic basic airplane styles with the knowledge of why their changes in shape, weight, and stabilization affect the flight of the craft. In the process the reader will also learn a little about how real airplanes are designed.This is an outstanding book for budding scientists and engineers to read alone, and it also makes an engaging adult-child activity. It's best suited for elementary ages, although a middle school audience would probably enjoy it too.

my dear old granddad (god rest his soul) did not spend a lot of time with my family, and his gifts were sometimes a bit off-target, as a result.THIS GIFT WILL STAY ON-TARGETI was just a lil' munchkin, or as a certain childhood favorite of fiction used to say, I was "the littlest end of nothin' sharpened!"Granddad was a physics professor during a time, and in a way, quite brilliant. He somehow ended up with the misfortune of being a teacher (He taught many subjects over the years, and I think that this one was math) of not only instructing a young man known as Theodore Kaczynski (I apologize for what must be atrocious spelling, but it's been a while...) but finding that the boy was, at that point in time, more than lucid enough to instruct the class in his absence should an emergency arise(these changes such as Ted had undergone usually manifest only in late teenage/early adult years with a COMPLETE psychological metamorphosis that seems, to all involved, no where close to being a "180"). We knew (or wondered) of him as "Unabomber". Coincidences aside, Granddad had a remarkable ability to teach kids in a way that did not bother them in the least. When reading books such as this one, a child can learn the properties of quantum/gravimetric physics so comfortably that all they realize is that they are learning how to create, design, and customize paper airplanes for optimal performance according to their own personal tastes and preferences, customizing potential trajectory, distance, air speed velocity, and they even learn a bit of history as well. If I am not mistaken, one of my favorite planes from this book is based on an actual aerial transport of roughly similar proportions! I don't think that I will ever have the privilege of seeing that progenitor of the paper model in question close up and in person, but then, we all have to set certain dreams aside to make room for others at one time or another. By the way, much of the terminology that I've used in this review is far more complicated as a description than that which lies within this book's pages. I could never possibly do it justice, save to say that the best way for a kid to learn is to do so without realizing it. if this can be achieved, then school, homework, science fair projects are...well... a breeze.

I'd hoped for diagrams for a variety of paper airplanes, but that's not what the book's about.Instead, it deals mostly with the physics of flight. It does suggest useful, inexpensive experiments for those with a scientific bent.
