Although this is an expensive set, there is so much valuable information in these 2 books for those interested in permaculture and forest gardening in the temperate climates of North America, it is well worth the price. The authors have scientific information to back their recommendations and to give credence to the longterm benefit and viability of the vision of permaculture and forest gardening…it is no longer just a wonderful vision but actually in the realm of reality. I loved the second volume with all the tables of plants arranged by their functions. There was so much information presented in a way that you can design a plan for your forest that will work really well together and will have a really great chance to thrive. If your plan includes plants that fix nitrogen and that accumulate nutrients such as calcium and potassium you will not need to add fertilizers. If you plan to have plants that support bees with nectar and pollen, you will have no problem pollinating your crops. If you make sure you have plants and habitats that attract predatory wasps and other beneficials , you will not need to worry about pests as much. I don't agree with everything in this book…such using glycophosphate. I think some of the soil preparation techniques that are recommended are too labour intensive…there must be a better way but overall there is really a lot of useful information

"The" book on forest gardening in North America. I wish I would have bought this first. So many other books I have are encompassed in this book. Volume 1 is about forest ecology, learning about what we are trying to mimic. Volume 2 is the practical applications section. These books and the Permaculture Designers manual are all you need. Volume 2 is a great reference. Volume 1 is pretty dense, but very interesting, thorough background information for what we are trying to accomplish.

These are SERIOUS reference books that you will have to go back to again and again. Martin Crawford has a very readable tome about food forests which is excellent--these are excellent too, but give much more indepth analysis of the process and on ecology. I have read them in tandem--again, these are books for the serious raw foodists and sustainable gardener, or designer and will probably take MONTHS of reading and years of digesting, but I think they are well worth it AND will serve anyone serious about sustainable agriculture, well.

I had originally checked these books out at the library, but, being as they are so large, I couldn't even get close to finishing the first one in only two weeks. I was impressed with them, however, and decided to spend the money on my own copies.I was so excited when they arrived--I'm still only partially through Book 1--and it's great having my own copies. And, unlike the ones from the library, these ones were in good shape--I'm a freak about the condition of my books, and I intend to keep these looking as good as they did the day they came!

It's no surprise to learn that Dave and Eric worked for seven years to write the Edible Forest Gardens books; the depth and breadth of permaculture knowledge that they present is incredible. Although I've heard some say that these books are not an easy read, I've found them to be fascinating, enjoyable and indispensable. I started my journey into permaculture with Gaia's Garden by Toby Hemenway, then decided to plant an edible forest in the back yard, so I purchased Volume 2 of Edible Forest Gardens, since it covers the practical consideration of forest gardening. I was so impressed with the book that I then purchased volume 1, which focuses on the ecological vision and theory for temperate climate permaculture. Highly recommended!

The author, Dave Jacke, has nailed this topic cold. Informative, to the point, "hands on" useable information..... Simply the best book I've found on this topic.Mr. Jacke's work is as good or better than Fukuoka, Louis Bromfield, Joel Salatin or Wendell Berry. This book will has become a how-to classic. A must have if your planning a premiculture project of your own.

I hesitated to spend so much money on these books. I find the information they contain to be the result of years of hard work by many people. They are prominently located on my reference shelf for easy access. If you are interested in Edible Forest Gardens, you will not be disappointed in the information they contain.Forest Gardening is a lengthy endeavor. You won't get many chances to get it right, so better to do it right the first time.

I am starting a business called Epic Edible Backyards, and researching permaculture and ways to maximize food production. I had focused on developing an interchangeable, versatile minimalist wardrobe of pieces I liked, but I hadn’t ever taken the time to intentionally, thoughtfully consider my own style.Author Anuschka Rees instructs her readers to develop a style overview. This is actually a process that takes some time and effort. From creating a “mood board” of pieces that reflect your style to writing down specific qualities like silhouettes, materials, colors, etc. I came up with quite a few examples of things it turns out I really DON’T like: turtlenecks, faux fur, mid length skirts, as well as things I do: square necklines, jackets, and the color black just to name a few.Having a well-developed sense of your own style is key to being a better shopper; there’s so much you can just immediately bypass when you’re shopping. But there are other components to being a better, smarter shopper and some of these were things I really needed to learn. One of the biggest mistakes I was making was just having a general idea of a piece I needed –say a blue shirt- and then going shopping and finding something (on sale) that more or less fit the bill. Before I knew it, I was ending up with things that theoretically should have completed my wardrobe, but in actuality were just filling my closet again. “The Curated Closet” taught me to be A LOT more detailed and intentional about filling in pieces. “Blue shirt” is far too broad: turquoise, square-necked, mid-length sleeve, cotton blend, fitted, etc…turns the focus away from finding something I generally like on a clearance rack, to something very specific that may take some time to find. I may pay more for a high quality piece, but in the end will save a lot of money because being intentional and focused on the specific wardrobe I am building, will prevent me from making lots of cheap purchases that I’ll just toss out in the end.I still have some shopping behavior changes to make- I know that. But I have improved a lot and so has my wardrobe! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that finds themselves with a closet full of close and nothing to wear, or who is ready to develop a personal style and become a smarter, better shopper.

I've been doing capsule wardrobes and working on editing my closet for the last two years. Here's what I love about The Curated Closet, and why I think it's better than the other wardrobe overhaul methods I've tried:First of all, none of it is cookie-cutter; it's about what works for YOU. It starts with a look at your current outfits (as opposed to pieces in your wardrobe). She asks you to take pictures of your outfits for two weeks and then looks at your FAVORITE outfits, that you felt the best in, and helps you analyze them to figure out WHY you love them and then build your whole wardrobe around those elements. This is different from every other challenge I've looked at, which have you look at all the clothes you WORE and build your wardrobe around the pieces you wore, which is NOT the same as building it around your favorite outfits. For me, I had a lot of favorite pieces, mixed with filler pieces that I only felt "meh" about, and consequently only felt okay about the outfits, even though they had some of my favorite pieces. No more "meh"!!!Walking away from this book I am purging a good chunk of my wardrobe (again; I'm down to less than 40 items now) but now have a clear set of guidelines for building it back up. I have a color palette, a couple of go-to outfit formulas, and a very specific but concise shopping list, of what I want to add, in order of priority. I finally feel like I've reached an end-goal and don't need to purge anymore! All that's left is to find the few pieces on my shopping list, and enjoy finally having my ideal wardrobe. This book is very well written, comprehensive, and has everything from what gastroparesis is, to what you should be eating, as well as a variety meal plans. The recipes in this cookbook are nicely organized. The recipes range from people who suffer from just gastroparesis to people who also have other conditions such as diabetes, gluten and lactose allergies, etc. There are many other resources available throughout this cookbook besides just all the amazing recipes. There is plenty of information on gastroparesis itself, how it affects people, what you can do about it and meal plans to keep you on track. I have yet to meet a recipe in this book that I have not loved. I also have a great deal more of information in my head now after reading this book. I did receive this book for free.

Totally worth it, I highly recommend this book if you have been diagnosed with gastroparesis especially if you are just learning how to manage food and meals. This book has taught me more than my doctors can about what I can eat and what I cant. This gives us great ideas on how to change up my meals so I can enjoy food again. I have tabs on my favorite recipes. This is a must have in your cookbook collection if you have gastroparesis.

Great Resource Just received this book and am impressed with it already. I purchased it for my son who needs this information. It's written in a clear, informative manner and filled with good information. The recipes range from simple with just a few ingredients to more elaborate meals. I love that some are gluten free because my son also has Celiac disease and he's feeling challenged about food. Actually, he's given up and doesn't see any way he can follow a special diet that's good for celiac, gp and high cholesterol. This book will help him! Highly recommend.

I was recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis and for someone who loves to cook amazing-healthy and fresh food, this was a very disarming revelation to say the least. This book has given me hope, with great recipes as opposed to the clinical internet medical advice for eating/cooking for this disease. The cookbook is also full of good advice and helpful descriptions about the disease and how to adjust your lifestyle, while making it easy for you to follow a routine while you adjust. I highly recommend this book to all those adjusting to Gastroparesis and similar digestive and autoimmune diseases.

I actually bought this book on Kindle for my brother who has gastroparesis. There are a lot of recipes in this book he can try to help with the gastroparesis. So far he has tried the Spinach Quiche and the acorn squash and egg bake. He says the recipes are very easy to follow. The book also list some test that can be done to find out if you have gastroparesis. It also tells you what might cause it. There is a list of food items that should be avoided if you have gastroparesis. My brother thinks this book will be a great help. I received this product for free for my honest and unbiased review.

I am in awe of the cookbook. Not only is the book filled with great meals, it contains more information on what "Gastroperesis is". As a diabetic, I never heard or knew the eat ability that would help my gut. Not only did I purchase a ebook, I also purchased the book to mark up all I didn't learn in educational classes.

I really liked the the actual recipes and the information about gastroparesis. What I plan to do is to actually buy the book (hard copy). Cookbooks on the Kindle are hard to read and actually use the recipes. Information good but the Kindle format for a cookbook does not work for me.

I can not wait to try the many delicious recipes from this cookbook! I absolutely LOVE how the recipes are marked by category (i.e., gluten free, dairy free, etc.) especially for SIBO. That is an added touch of information that is vitally important but often not discussed. This book is not only a cookbook but a wealth of information about gastroparesis. Very well done!!

I've been waiting for a book like this since the 1970's, when I first became interested in the east side interurbans. Many photos I've never seen before. The track plan for the Sellwood car barns is much appreciated (I used to live across the tracks from the now-gone barns). Lots of good historical data. Well worth the cost! Thanks Mr.Thompson!

Some such ventures were the Willamette Valley Southern and the extensive Southern Pacific system. This book's author said they're covered in another book. I didn't know what to expect when I started this book. I love mystery storylines, they always move fast and you have a little blood. This is definitely Opposite of that. It remind me of the old PI tv shows. The storyline moved along slow...which made it hard for you not to miss anything. The characters were great. Jane was so laid back I thought oh she going to get whacked. Cordelia kept cracking me up she is great friend. The others characters fit right into the storyline just perfect. I would definitely recommend this book.

I am enjoying this book more the second time around. Great characters, great story, great read. Finding a dead body can be traumatizing to most people, but not our heroine 'Jane Lawless'. Jane is living in the 1980's, a time when homophobia and misogyny were part of your normal everyday life. Her ability to navigate the system and use it to solve crime keeps you coming back for more!

Humorous, Cordelia may be on of the drollest characters in modern mysterydom. She acts as Dr Watson to Jane's Sherlock.Good mystery with a plausible ending.More importantly, it treats homosexuality as an acceptable way of life. I will definitely read more of these.

Ellen Hart is an excellent author. This book with Jane as the main character, has her research why someone passed from what appears not to be murder. Play along as likely you will not figure the answer. I did not.

This was a fun read between heaveier duty books. I appreciated the characters, but in the end it all boiled down to one piece of paper. So it was somewhat predictable, but I would read more in this series, just for fun.

This is my first Ellen Hart. I plan to read another. The plot was a bit contrived but Jane and her sidekick are interesing enough to cover that weakness. I look forward to a later story.

Great book!

Nice reading something set at the U of M and Minneapolis. The story is ok. The writing is pretty good.
